Google has announced the Android 4.0 code name Ice Cream Sandwich, turns out “Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich” is the most popular search term on Internet. People want to know that whether their Android smart phones could update to this new system, unfortunately, if you don’t own the Nexus series phones, you have to put your hopes on the third party developers, like CyanogenMod team, and as the Android 4.0 source code still not release, we have to wait until CM team get the source code and begin to cook the new rom, so the “CyanogenMod 9” rom will be available on December at the earliest. 🙂
When the Android 4.0 source code will be available? Yesterday, Dan Morrill the Google’s Android compatibility chief, mentioned that the ICS(Ice Cream Sandwich) source code will be release, once ICS is available on device, it means that once Samsung Galaxy Nexus S launch on November, Google will upload the Android 4.0 source code to the website kernel.org. Also he said the source code web server of “kernel.org” will be back online before this weekend, which was closed after being compromised by an attacker. but it’s only Gingerbread source code this time, not ICS.
As a user of Milestone A853, I also hope that Ice Cream Sandwich will available on Milestone, but we have to big problem with that, first one, Android 4.0 is running based on 3.0 kernel, we only have the 2.6.32 kernel, could it be possible that let Android 4.0 running on 2.6.32 kernel? second one, the proprietary libraries of CyanogenMod 7 for Milestone A853 was taken from Android 2.2, could it be possible that these 2.2 proprietary libraries compatible with ICS? So far nobody can tell how difficult to solve these two problems until the Android 4.0 source code is out.
