Android 7.1.1 Developer Preview 2 is Rolling Out, Install and Root

Android 7.1 Developer Preview 2 (NPF26F/H) is now available for the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus 9 LTE and Pixel C, add support devices: Nexus 9, Nexus 9 LTE (Sorry Nexus 6 users…). And this is the final Developer Preview.

How to install Android 7.1 Developer Preview2 without entering recovery?

Usually I prefer use the FlashFire to install Full OTA package rather than use TWRP, As I can do all the step in one, like keep the TWRP recovery, root permissions.

But at this time, There is no Full OTA package download link have been provided by Google, so I just wait someone get the OTA message to extract the hidden download link.

If you have modified the build.prop for using the Google Assistant, you have to restore the original device name and rolling in the Beta programme again to receive the OTA.

If you use the factory image, remember it will wipe all your data of your phone, if you did not want to wipe data, I would suggest you wait for the Full OTA package.

Not necessarily, it only requires removing two characters from the install script to avoid wiping data. However, there a reason why it does. Unless you know what you’re doing, you probably shouldn’t.

I have received OTA but installing it takes me to TWRP which then does nothing, i tried flashfire but it doesn’t detects the downloaded ota, any solution? (I’m on 7.1.1 DP1)

    • What is the file size of the OTA package you received?

      • Chandrashekhar Singh

        151.3 MB

        • Yup, as others comments, this is not for TWRP only for stock recovery. We need Full OTA package for TWRP or flashfire, but not available right now.

AFAIK, that OTA is only for stock recovery. You could flash via TWRP when you have full OTA image (not be confused with factory image for fastboot mode) and which won’t be available according to Google’s info.
I updated to DP2 by full reflashing via fastboot with preliminary data backups in titanium and can advise you do the same.

i tried going back to stock recovery using Nexus root toolkit but it says recovery image for this build is not available yet, so from where do i download stock recovery of 7.1.1 dp1?

You can extract it from full factory DP1 image. Google for NPF10C and download it.
Then reboot to bootloader and flash it manually with “fastboot flash recovery recovery.img” command string.
